What this visa allows

  • Live, work and study in Australia permanently after grant.
  • Enrol in Medicare as an eligible permanent resident.
  • Include eligible family members and consider citizenship if separately eligible.
  • A five-year travel facility applies from grant. Permanent residence does not expire after five years, but return travel may require a Resident Return visa or citizenship.

Requirements at a glance

  • Be under 45 when invited to apply; meeting this age requirement when submitting an EOI is not enough.
  • Nominate an eligible occupation and meet the relevant suitable skills assessment requirements, including validity and timing rules.
  • Have at least Competent English at invitation, with evidence that meets the current requirements.
  • Meet the minimum 65-point total, including five points for nomination, and support the score on the invitation.
  • Receive state or territory nomination and an invitation to apply; meet the jurisdiction’s separate selection requirements.
  • Meet health, character and other applicable visa criteria, including any requirements affecting accompanying family members.

Important limitations

  • Meeting federal eligibility or a state’s published criteria does not guarantee nomination, an invitation or a visa grant.
  • States and territories use different selection criteria, application processes and commitments, which may change.
  • An Expression of Interest is not a visa application. It does not provide a bridging visa or lawful immigration status.
  • Support the points score stated in your invitation with appropriate evidence. Overclaimed points or unmet criteria can lead to refusal.

How the process works

  1. Assess federal visa eligibility and the points you can substantiate.
  2. Check relevant state or territory criteria, including occupation, employment, residence and any commitment requirements.
  3. Prepare an EOI and any Registration of Interest or separate nomination application required by the jurisdiction.
  4. If nominated and invited, review the invitation and lodge the visa application within 60 days.
  5. Provide evidence and respond to requests. Nomination does not replace the Department’s visa assessment.

How we actually help

  • Separate federal visa requirements from state nomination criteria.
  • Assess occupation, employment, residence and points against suitable jurisdictions.
  • Prepare EOIs, required ROIs and nomination evidence, and review visa application claims.

Compare state nomination with independent 189 and provisional regional 491. More points alone do not necessarily make a profile more competitive for a particular state’s priorities.
